Clunie Range Angus stud achieved a record top price for the
stud at their 2006 annual bull sale at Wallangra, selling Clunie
Range Zanzibar Z18 (AI)(ET) for $22,000. The frame score 7,
910kg son of Future Direction out of a great Clunie Range Naomi
cow, had a fantastic balanced set of EBV's to back up his visible
power and structure.
In fact Clunie Range sold three flush brothers from this mating
for a $15333 average. The top priced purchaser was Bolton Carpenter,
Dungowan who will use the bull to breed composite bulls for
his 1600 head Santa Gertrudis cowherd.
Overall the stud had a total clearance of 73 bulls to average
$6212, which was down only fifty dollars on last years average
but with 17 more bulls sold this year. A pleasing result of
the sale was the large number of repeat buyers who purchased
the majority of bulls on the day.
Una Denham, Tingha, who returned to the sale after purchasing
the top priced bull last year, paid second top price of $14,000
for a full brother to the top seller, she also purchased another
bull for $7000.
Underbidders to the top seller were Coonamble duo Terry Hannigan
and Alan Deans who teamed up to buy Clunie Range Zeppelin Z81
for $13,000 who was a son of home-bred sire Clunie Range Xplorer
X14. The heaviest weight for age bull in the sale, he had a
600 day weight EBV of +108, and a B3 index of $92.
Darren and Adrian Lane, Wilano Angus stud Dunnedoo made two
astute purchases for stud duties including Clunie Range Zorba
Z5 for $12,000 and Clunie Range Aztec A5 for $7000. The younger
bull was part of a fantastic set of six flush brothers by BR
New Frontier out of a great Bando 598 cow that averaged $7750.
First time purchasers David and Angela Copeland from Dunnedoo,
buying through Logical Livestock Marketing at Mudgee, purchased
3 very good bulls for an average of $7167, to be used in the
large cowherd which also produces composite bulls.
Volume buyers on the day were Gil Gil Farming, Moree returning
this year to buy six bulls to a top of $8000 and average of
$6833. Fairfax and sons, Toobeah purchased 5 bulls to a top
of $7500 and Janric Pastoral Company, Mullaley purchased 4 bulls
