Clunie Range to $14,000, Average $4,944.
The guest family's Clunie Range Angus Stud found its mark among buyers, selling to $14,000, despite their Coolatai properties being persistently in drought for the past few years.
Jointly offered by local agencies, McGregors and Alex Johnston and Company, Clunie Range averaged $4,944 for the 72 bulls sold, clearing all but four lots that sold directly after the sale.
Clunie Range's Brett Guest said many of the stud's immediate neighbours and repeat buyers were also doing it tough, so the result - which increased on last year's average - was pleasing under the circumstances.
The stud again found favour with Dr Una Denham, "Montaillou", Tinga, who has brought sires exclusively from the Guests' top-tier offerings for four years.
Dr Denham said she decided to run with Clunie Range because the stud's genetics offered a good mix of calving ease and growth.
She hadn't been disappointed, and last Friday won the bidding for 16-month-old Clunie Range Craftman C5, a son of BT Ultravox 297E, at $14,000.
Weighing 620 kilograms, Craftsman's estimated breeding values (EBVs) gave a 400-day growth figure of +73, and a 600-day growth of +92.
Dr Denham also brought the rising two-year-old, Clunie Range Broadband B48, for $12,500.
Broadband, a son of Baldridge Nebraska, with EVBs of +107 for 600-day weight, and +84 for 400-days.
Three sires sold for $8,000, to Yambocully Pty Ltd, Goondiwindi, Queensland; D.C. and J. Copeland, Dunedoo; and Rosedale Pastoral Company, Yelarbon.
Mcintyre Station, Inverell, listed as SJPM Pty Ltd, was the volume buyer, collecting seven bulls for an average of $4,071, and going to a top of $4,500, twice.
The Sutton Corporation's Inverell holding, "Clerkness", picked up five Clunie Range bulls, paying an average of $4,300 and to $5,000, twice.
TVF Pastoral Company, Tambo, QLD, brought four bulls for an average of $6,500, paying to a top of $7,250.
