On the 2nd December 2011 they acheived $826 for an excellent line of 57 EU Angus steers weighing 314.7kg or almost $2.63 on farm. Assement comments included “well handled”, “very quiet in yards” “should return excellent weight gains” and “a well managed lot” say alot about the management of the property and the cattle.

Weighing 279.7kg and making a whopping $795 per head or $2.84/kg

The highest priced yearling bull on the day was also sold locally to another repeat buyer, Graman Pastoral Company for $13,000. Clunie Range Ferrari F318, is an exceptional bull and featured in a video on Clunie Range’s new website in the pre-sale advertising.

Ferrari  F318 lived up to his name, keeping elite company in the top 1% of the national herd for growth and a great balance of muscle, marbling and sire appeal. Only June drop 2010 this impressive young sire was weaned at over 400kg and at sale time was 620kg.

There was a huge presence of Queensland buyers on hand who made it clear that they were chasing muscling, depth of body, softness and finishing ability to complement their own European and Bos Indicus breeding herds. They were not chasing the extreme framed bulls of the past that have at times seen breeders disappointed in the bulls ability to handle tough times and also importantly for the progeny to finish.

The market on the day clearly showed the importance of depth of body and doing ability. Bulls sold as far south as Dunedoo in the central tablelands and well into Central Queensland, with several studs purchasing bulls as well.

The Guest family have always had a strong following of local clients and regard this as their strength.

While the market was really strong, with 9 bulls exceeding a price of $10,000 there was still a huge gallery of local buyers on hand and well over 50% of the bulls sold within a 150km radius. Visitors were treated to a complementary lunch and morning tea and through a gold coin donation there was in excess of $1,000 donated to NEVAT based at Ashford

In April 2011 Clunie Range completed the ultrasound scanning of the “E” drop heifers with some excellent results. Clunie Range is always careful not to quote raw data out of context as a marketing exercise, but the results of these heifers give us confidence in our breeding program.

The heifers were scanned, weighed and preg tested over two days:
• 41% of the heifers had a raw scan of 7.0% or higher
• 82% of the heifers had a raw scan of over 6.0%
During April we commenced our annual pregnancy testing program with the Inverell Vet Clinic, and out of 355 “E” drop heifers our pregnancy rate was 98.2%

Clunie Range clients had a great day out at the Sapphire City Weaner Sale held at Inverell  on the 14th April 2011.

• Champion pen of steers was Alan and Elisabeth Ubergang “Blue Nobby” Station North Star for their black baldy steers. Weighing 320kg they made $830 per head. Another pen of Angus/Braford steers weighed 318kg and achieved $842 per head

• Champion pen of Heifers was awarded to Geoff and Vicki Smith, Dalkeith Warialda

• Nicky Denham, Tinga sold heifers weighing 265kg for $760A number of other clients also achieved some great results
